Chiang Mai, the big city in North Thailand is a melting pot for different tribes and cultures.
One of the biggest ethnic groups are the Shan, in Thailand called Tai Yai. These days the Shan people in Chiang Mai, North Thailand celebrate their New Year 2106 with events, mostly held in and around the Shan Temple Wat Koo Tao, located at Chang Puak district in the city of Chiang Mai.
Colorful costumes, dancers, a lot of music, Shan food and unknown rites let You plunge in the cultural world of the Shan (Tai Yai). Shan New Years day 2011/2106 is the 25.11.2011, but the festivities will go on, at least until beginning of December.
