Let´s get ready for Chinese New Year 2012. At the 23.01.2012 the year of the rabbit will end and the year of the dragon will be welcomed with celebrations all over the world. About 2 weeks before chinese new year people prepare for the most important chinese ceremonies. Houses will be cleaned and decorated with red lamps and red paper ribbons (duilian). See also: Chinese New Year Dos and Don’ts. The colour red symbolises fortune, happiness and prosperity, but there is also a new year legend around the colour red.



Every year around new year the Nian, a beast living under the sea or in the mountains, comes out of hiding and attacks people, especially children. The Nian has a raw point, the beast can´t stand loud noises and the colour red. The spectacular Chinese Lion Dance is originated from the legend of the Nian and will be performed during the new year festivities.
